The EU FP7 ICT project NANO-TEC seeks to build a community of academic researchers in nanoelectronics, addressing specifically research in Beyond CMOS from the combined technology and design perspectives

NANO-TEC announces its fourth and final workshop, which will focus on "Summary and Recommendations for the Technology-Design Ecosystem". The event will take place in Barcelona, Spain on 6 and 7 November, 2012.

Context of the workshop:
The European Commission ICT theme has funded a proposal for a Coordination Action project entitled "ECOSYSTEMS TECHNOLOGY and DESIGN for NANOELECTRONICS" (NANO-TEC). The project started on 1st September 2010 and its aims are to identify the emerging generation of device concepts and technologies for ICT, as well as to build a joint technology design community in order to coordinate research efforts in nanoelectronics in the European research area. Therefore the requirements for future ‘Beyond CMOS’ devices have been identified during the 1st NANO-TEC workshop in January 2011 These devices have been benchmarked during the 2nd workshop in October 2011 and have been undertaken a SWOT analysis during the 3rd workshop (for slides see link below).

The workshop program includes a series of plenary presentations on several selected technologies, discussions in several separated working groups and a panel discussion on design tools for beyond CMOS technologies. The topics are “Nanoelectronics in EU Horizon 2020 and SRC views”, “Technology and Design for devices with charge as state variable”, “Technology and Design for devices with non charge state variables”, “Technology and Design of new computing Paradigms”, “Neuromorphic computing as a new computing paradigm”, “Industrial views”, “Ecosystem Technology”, and the Panel Discussion: "Design Tools for Beyond CMOS technologies" The complete tentative program can be found at the NANO-TEC website www.fp7-NANOTEC.eu.

As the project aims at an exchange in a joint technology-design community, the attendance is recommended especially to designers and design-related experts who like to bring in their expertise and who like to take new ideas on opportunities by beyond CMOS technologies.

Registration and attendance is free of charge. The deadline for registration to the workshop is October 20, 2012.

About NANO-TEC
The EU FP7 ICT project NANO-TEC seeks to build a community of academic researchers in nanoelectronics, addressing specifically research in Beyond CMOS from the combined technology and design perspectives. A methodology for continued consultation and analysis of research needs and trends will be developed. The main activity will be a workshop series with invited experts, preceded by a methodology contents preparation phase and subsequent analysis and documentation, both by the consortium. Apart of determining what is relevant for Beyond CMOS devices and design, benchmarking and SWOT analyses will be performed.

More details on the project can be found at the project website: www.fp7-NANOTEC.eu
